TOURNAMENT FORMATS

If you have ideas, I would love to hear them!

I plan on running several different tournament formats at first so we can see what everyone prefers.  I encourage you to at least participate in a few of them to see if you do like them.

  1. SINGLE ELIMINATION:  You will play in groups of at least 3-4 players.  The top 2 players advance to the next round.  Seeding & table selection will be completely random with no qualifying necessary.

  2. SINGLE ELIMINATION WITH QUALIFYING:  Similar to above format except there will be qualifying which will determine seeding and usually the top one or 2 qualifiers get a bye into round 2.  I think if and when we get to the point of having money tournaments, this format will be used.

  3. DOUBLE ELIMINATION:  Similar deal to #1 except the losers from the first round (and possibly the second round) will be placed into a “losers” bracket to compete for the final 2 to play in the finals with the 2 players from the “winner” bracket.  This format takes longer to play out so it might be better suited to a smaller turnout at first.

  4. 3 OR 4 STRIKE (OR MORE):  You will play in groups of at least 3-4 players.  The top 2 advance and the bottom 1 or 2 get a strike.  Once you get the maximum number of strikes, you are out of competition.  After the first round, you will usually get paired with other players with the same amount of strikes to make the tournament go quicker.  Totally random seeding & table selection.

  5. PINBOWLING:  Pretty simple format – you play 10 different tables and your top score is added together and whoever has the highest overall score wins.  The main variation to this theme will be the number of attempts on each machine – it could be 1 to unlimited!

  6. PINBOWLING Version 2: Set a scoring goal for each table - if goal is met, then you get a strike, if not some sort of tier based scoring would be used.  For example 30% of the score would be a 3, etc.

  7. PINGOLF: Similar to pinbowling version 2 where the closer you are to the score the less strokes you would take for the hole.

Tournament Formats: Welcome
